Merino's Last-Minute Header Sends Spain into Euro 2024 Semis

A dramatic extra-time header by Mikel Merino secured Spain’s place in the Euro 2024 semifinals with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Germany on Friday.

Florian Wirtz’s last-gasp equalizer in regulation time forced the match into an additional period, after Dani Olmo had put Spain ahead early in the second half.

Spain finished the game with nine men after Dani Carvajal received a second yellow card in extra time, earning a suspension for their upcoming semifinal clash against either Portugal or France. Defender Robin le Normand will also miss the match due to yellow card accumulation.

This victory marked the end of the international career for Germany’s veteran midfielder, Toni Kroos.
